Ep. #17 – La Importancia de Desarrollar a los Mercados de Capitales (ESP)



Si bien algunos países tienen el lujo de darlo por sentado, un mercado de capitales bien desarrollado y viable puede tener un impacto significativo en la economía de un país. Desarrollar un mercado de capitales no es una tarea fácil, pero existen numerosos recursos disponibles para los reguladores y supervisores, así como para otros participantes del mercado. 

En este podcast, Ilana Singer, Presidenta de la Junta Asesora de Valores de Toronto Centre, habla con Ana Fiorella Carvajal. Ana tiene más de 25 años de experiencia en temas del sector financiero con un enfoque en el desarrollo, regulación y supervisión del mercado de capitales. Actualmente, Ana es la especialista líder en el mercado de valores del Grupo Banco Mundial. Entre sus funciones, asesora a países en temas relacionados con el desarrollo de mercados de capitales y ha dirigido misiones de asistencia técnica en una amplia gama de mercados emergentes y otros países. Antes de unirse al Grupo Banco Mundial, Ana trabajó como experta senior del sector financiero en el Fondo Monetario Internacional.


Ep. #17 – The Importance of Developing Capital Markets (ENG)



While it’s something that certain countries have the luxury of taking for granted, a well-developed and viable capital market can have a significant impact on a country’s economy. It is not an easy task to develop a capital market, but there are numerous resources that are available to regulators and supervisors, as well as for other market participants. 

In this podcast, Ilana Singer, Chair of the Toronto Centre Securities Advisory Board, is speaking with Ana Fiorella Carvajal. Ana has more than 25 years of experience in financial sector issues with a focus on capital market development, regulation, and supervision. Ana is currently the lead securities market specialist at the World Bank Group. In this role, she advises countries on issues relating to capital market development and has led technical assistance missions in a wide range of the emerging markets and other countries. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Ana worked as a senior financial sector expert at the International Monetary Fund.


Ep. #16 – Supervising Climate Risk – ECCB’s Perspective



In this podcast Babak Abbaszadeh, CEO of Toronto Centre, interviews ECCB Governor Timothy Antoine on the work of the ECCB to deal with climate and environmental risks.  Governor Antoine highlights how these risks impact financial stability and economic prosperity of small island states.  He strongly encourages all countries to address this issue to protect the well-being of all.

Governor Timothy Antoine is an economist and development practitioner. He was born in Grenada and has served as the third Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) since 1 February 2016. 

Mr. Antoine spent 14 of his 22 years with the Government of Grenada’s Ministry of Finance as Permanent Secretary, and previously held positions such as Planning Officer and Senior Economist. In addition to his experience as a senior manager, Mr. Antoine has also accrued significant experience in financial regulation, as Chairman of the Grenada Authority for the Regulation of Financial Institutions (regulator of non-banks) and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. 

He has also served as Advisor in the Office of the Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean of the World Bank Group and was based in Washington DC. 

Mr. Antoine holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of the West Indies, and a M.Sc. in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics. 

In 2018, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from St George’s University. He was also the recipient of the Order of Grenada Gold Award for Excellence in 2016. 

Mr. Antoine is currently the Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Home Mortgage Bank, the Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange and the Chairman of CCRIF SPC.
